Numerical analysis of high-strength concrete columns interconnected by normal-strength concrete floor

The construction methods currently adopted for multi-story concrete buildings resorts the strategy to cast columns and slabs with high normal compressive strength, respectively. intersection region affects load transfer performance of columns, causing expressive confinement stress in interior columns. However, when is only provided by two sides, as corner it not enough increase lateral stress. structural behavior represented isolated also called sandwich column, investigated this paper through numerical nonlinear models. stresses induced uniaxial applied are computed influence strength column-slab ratio, slab thickness column width ratio biggest dimension column’s cross section were tested. A set expressions proposed calculate effective based on results. predicted has shown a good agreement experimental results collected from literature.
